Privacy settings
May we set one first-party cookie (pv, a random identifier kept for
12 months) to count unique and returning visitors and keep you in the same version
of a page during a test? Nothing is shared with third parties. Page views are counted for
everyone without cookies either way.
We count page views on our own servers for every visitor, without cookies and without storing IP addresses. That does not change whatever you choose here.
With your consent we also set one first-party cookie, named
pv: a random identifier, kept for 12 months. It lets us count unique
and returning visitors and keeps you in the same version of a page while we compare two
versions. It is sent only to this site, and nothing is shared with third parties. Your choice
itself is stored in this browser's local storage, which is necessary to remember and honour
it. You can change your mind at any time with “Privacy settings” at the bottom of every page;
declining or withdrawing deletes the cookie.
What our servers keep from the identifier: it is hashed and added to daily statistical sketches (HyperLogLog) that can report how many distinct identifiers they hold but cannot list them. No identifier is stored in readable form or written to a log. Withdrawing deletes the cookie and stops future counting; sketches already written cannot list or reveal the identifier, cannot have one entry removed, and expire after 400 days.
