How to run async prospect search in an AI SDR agent with MCP
- Agent sends prospect descriptionfind_prospects returns a jobId immediately
- Job runs asynchronouslyTypically 5 to 25 minutes; each candidate's website is checked
- Agent polls statusget_discovery_status returns state, progress, and new domains
- Agent reads resultsget_discovery_results returns companies with contacts
- Agent optionally cancelscancel_discovery stops the job; credits refunded only if nothing delivered
What your agent gets from Prosp
Connect your SDR agent to Prosp over MCP so it can call find_prospects and receive prospect companies with the contacts each company publishes on its own website and elsewhere on the public web. The agent sends one message describing its buyers and gets back a job ID it polls until results arrive.
Why a prospect search takes minutes
Prosp visits each candidate company's website and checks other public sources to find contacts. That is why a fresh search typically runs 5 to 25 minutes rather than returning instantly.
Companies Prosp already knows can come back in seconds.
The job lifecycle your agent drives
find_prospects returns a jobId immediately; the job runs asynchronously.
get_discovery_status reports the job's state, the number of prospects so far and the target, and lists the found domains as they arrive. Passing the previous next_cursor returns only new domains.
get_discovery_results returns the result summary and the companies with the contacts Prosp found, once the job has finished.
cancel_discovery stops a running job. Credits are refunded only when nothing had been delivered at cancel time.
Polling and reading over REST
If your agent uses REST instead of MCP, it polls GET /api/v1/discoveries/{jobId} for status and reads GET /api/v1/discoveries/{jobId}/prospects for results. Polling status and reading results cost no credits.
What one search costs
A search costs about one cent. Your agent can run many searches per prospecting session without significant cost.

Questions
What does an example request look like?
An agent sends: "Find independent menswear retailers in Germany and Austria." Prosp returns a jobId; the agent polls until companies and contacts arrive.
Can my agent get partial results while the job runs?
Yes. get_discovery_status lists found domains as they arrive, and passing the previous next_cursor returns only new ones.
